Employee Eligibility

Full-time employees

If you’re regularly scheduled to work at least 35 hours per week, you’re eligible for all benefits offered.

Part-time employees

If you’re regularly scheduled to work 20 hours or more per week, you’re eligible for all benefits except for Long-Term Disability (LTD).

If you’re regularly scheduled to work less than 20 hours per week, you’re not eligible for benefits.

Dependent Eligibility

If you’re benefits-eligible and enrolled in coverage, you may also enroll your eligible dependents, including:

  • Your spouse (if you’re not legally separated or divorced).1
  • Your same- or opposite-sex domestic partner.2
  • Your children or your spouse’s/domestic partner’s children until they reach age 26.3
  • Your disabled children or those of your spouse/domestic partner, regardless of age, who are dependent on either of you for support. Proof of disability is required.
  • Children placed with you or your spouse/domestic partner for adoption.

1 If your spouse also works for AMC Global Media, both of you can enroll in your own employee coverage or one can elect to cover the other on their coverage. You can’t cover your spouse if they elected their own coverage through AMC Global Media.
2 If your domestic partner is entitled to Medicare, Medicare must be elected and is the primary payer of services. If your domestic partner also works for AMC Global Media, both of you can enroll in your own employee coverage or one can elect to cover the other on their coverage. You can’t cover your domestic partner if they elected their own coverage through AMC Global Media.
3 Coverage lasts through the end of the month in which they turn 26

Making Changes During the Year: Qualifying Life Events (QLEs)

You can only make changes to your benefits during the year if you have a qualifying life event. It is your responsibility to create a life event on Workday within 31 days of the qualifying life event. If you don’t, you may not be able to make changes to your benefits until the next annual open enrollment period. Both health and dependent care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) must be re-elected each year.

Examples of qualifying life events include:

  • Birth, legal adoption, or placement for adoption
  • Marriage, divorce, or legal separation
  • You (the employee) or your dependent child reaches age 26
  • Your parent loses coverage and you are under age 26
  • Spouse or dependent loses or gains coverage elsewhere
  • Death of your spouse or dependent child
  • Spouse or dependent child becomes eligible or ineligible for Medicare/Medicaid or the state’s children’s health insurance program
  • Change in residence that changes coverage eligibility
  • Spouse’s open enrollment that occurs at a different time from yours

Marriage or new partnership

If you get married or start a new domestic partnership, you can add your spouse or domestic partner to your coverage.

Divorce or end of a partnership

If you get divorced or end a domestic partnership, you must remove your former spouse or domestic partner from your coverage within 31 days of the date the marriage or partnership is officially terminated.

Welcoming a new child

If you give birth to, adopt, or have a child placed with you for adoption, you can add your new child to your coverage.

Loss of life

If a covered dependent has died, you can remove them from your coverage.

Gain new coverage

If your spouse, domestic partner, or covered dependent child gains coverage elsewhere, you can:

  • Drop your AMC coverage to enroll in your spouse or domestic partner’s coverage.
  • Drop your covered dependent child from your coverage.
Loss of coverage

If you, your spouse, domestic partner, or eligible dependent child lose coverage elsewhere, including COBRA coverage, you can enroll yourself and your eligible dependents in coverage.

Dependent child turning age 26

If your covered dependent child turns 26, their coverage will automatically end at the end of the month in which they turn 26. You will receive an email from Workday when your dependent child is no longer eligible.

Employee turning age 26

If you (the employee) turn 26 and are no longer allowed to be covered on your parent’s plan, it is considered a qualifying life event (QLE). Within 31 days of turning 26, you must log in to Workday and enroll in AMC Global Media benefits. When selecting the type of QLE in the system, select “ACA Age 26.”

Medicare, Medicaid, and CHIP

You can enroll or drop coverage if you or your eligible dependents either:

  • Gain or lose Medicare or Medicaid benefits
  • Lose coverage under the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) because you are no longer eligible
  • Become eligible for an applicable state’s premium assistance program under Medicaid or CHIP.

Important Notes:

You have 31 days from the date of the event to report a qualifying life event. Log into Workday and go to Benefits > Change Benefits.

  • Documentation is required, e.g., a copy of your marriage certificate or birth/adoption certificate.
  • You may be required to provide Evidence of Insurability (Good Health) before your life insurance coverage is effective.
